First Lady Melania Trump commended America’s students for their efforts in adapting to changes made amid the pandemic, in an address to the nation on Thursday.

In the two-minute video that was delivered during the end of a CNN town hall, Trump acknowledged the sacrifices that students in the country had to make in order to help their friends, families, and communities “stay safe and healthy in these unusual times.”

“Over the past two months I know you have had to make many changes in your life. Many of you have had to attend classes in your homes and haven’t been able to see your friends. Many of you were looking forward to your prom, spring sports, and graduation,” the first last said. “These changes were not easy but you have been so strong and I am proud of the examples you have become. Your determination to get through this will define your generation for years to come.”

Trump also thanked students for keeping up with their studies and using new ways to approach learning, and encouraged students to take the opportunity to do what they had not been able to, or did not have time, to previously do.

“Read the book you’ve been meaning to read. Practice your favorite sport, or learn a new one, and help out at home,” Trump said. She also encouraged people to stay connected with others, especially close friends and family.

“Be sure to stay in touch with friends and family, and make sure you’re being your best self,” she said.

The first lady reminded the American people that it is important to practice these simple things to stay healthy.

“These are important and healthy habits that we can all easily practice, and they are a reminder that we will only get through this with patients, compassion, and care,” Trump adding that she and President Donald Trump are doing their best to support Americans.

“Tonight, please know that the president and I are with you during these challenging times and we [will] continue to do everything we can to support you,” the first lady said.
