President Trump has endorsed House Republicans’ bill to repeal Obamacare, called the American Health Care Act (AHCA). Yet the bill has faced opposition by some conservative lawmakers, who feel it doesn’t go far enough.
Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, stated, ”Our goal is real simple: to bring down the cost of insurance for working families and middle-class families across this country. In an effort to do that we think you have to get rid of Obamacare completely. So tomorrow I will introduce the bill that every single Republican voted on just 15 months ago, the bill that actually repeals Obamacare.”
This may not be a realistic threat to the AHCA, since some Republican lawmakers do support aspects of Obamacare in their states, such as expanded Medicaid.
Vice President Mike Pence encouraged representatives to support the AHCA: “We’re certainly open to improvements in the recommendations in the legislative process but but this is the bill, and the president supports the American Health Care Act.”
