Russia’s Arrest of Falun Gong Practitioners a ‘Huge Mistake’: Falun Dafa Information Center

NTD spoke with Levi Browde, executive director of the Falun Dafa Information Center after a Moscow court recently ordered that one female practitioner of Falun Dafa be put in jail for two months, pending an investigation.

The meditation practice of Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, has been heavily persecuted in China since 1999. Now it seems Russia may be looking to deepen its ties with Chinese regime by following its lead.

Moscow police raided the homes of five Falun Gong practitioners on May 3, and arrested four. That was under a controversial law against what Russian authorities deem “undesirable organizations.” The list includes independent media outlets, journalists, and U.S. think tanks.

The suppression campaign previously included book banning, harassment, and interrogations. But it’s the first time Russia has gone to such extremes against the mediation practice.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit China this month. Leaders from the two countries declared a “no-limit” partnership before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
