China deployed scores of planes and fired live missiles near Taiwan on Thursday. These were its biggest military drills in the Taiwan Strait yet.
They came a day after U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a solidarity trip to the self-ruled island.
China’s military fired multiple conventional missiles in waters off Taiwan. It sent more than 100 planes, including fighter jets and bombers, and over ten warships.
Taiwan’s defense ministry said it scrambled jets to warn away 22 Chinese aircraft.
NTD spoke with Anders Corr, China expert and a principal at Corr Analytics, about the drills.
