A 47-year-old Eldon, Missouri, woman was killed after her golf cart overturned on June 15, according to multiple reports.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report indicated that the victim of the crash was a woman named Tisha Vanbarneveld, who was driving a 2002 Easy Go golf cart at the time. According to the online traffic crash report, the crash happened as the golf cart happened to travel off the left side of the road and overturned, and Vanbarneveld was ejected from the vehicle. According to ABC 17 KMIZ, the crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. on Unicorn road.
The report indicated that 47-year-old was not wearing any safety device, and the damage sustained by the golf cart was minimal.
The cart was left at the scene of the crash while Vanbarneveld was taken to the University Hospital via aircraft to seek treatment. However, Vanbarneveld passed away the following day on June 16, and according to the crash report, she was pronounced dead at 1:13 p.m.
According to the ABC 17 KMIZ, this was the ninth fatality reported this month in the central district of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Previous Traffic Accidents
According to the traffic reports for the central district, on the same day, another crash happened around 4:28 p.m., where a man, Devon C. Frisbie, was involved in a vehicle crash. According to the report on the crash, the victim was traveling along MO. 42 east Coker road when Frisbie’s car trailed over the right side the road, and then immediately pulled back and started heading towards the left side of the road. According to the report, the car began to skid and slide, eventually overturning and struck a utility pole.
Frisbie was pronounced dead on the scene by the Miller County coroner, Tim Bradley, at 7:56 p.m. The victim’s next of kin was contacted, and later on, was transported to the Hedges Scott funeral home.
There was another vehicle crash on the same day where two people were in a car—a 2002 Ford Excursion. Billy D. Scrivner and Penny K. Houston were in the vehicle when it suffered a mechanical failure, according to the crash report. The mechanical failure caused the car to cross the center lane and trail off the south edge of the roadway into a field, where it eventually overturned several times before stopping.
Scrivner was pronounced dead on the scene by a University Hospital doctor and transported to a funeral home, whereas Houston suffered from serious injuries, and was transported to the capital region hospital for treatment.
On June 14, two vehicles crashed trying to negotiate a curve on the center lane. Richard E. Casanova, 75, was driving a 2011 Jeep Wrangler heading northbound, while Leigh E. Snoddy, 31, was driving a 2011 Honda Odyssey heading southbound, according to the crash report. Casanova sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead upon arriving at the hospital, whereas Snoddy sustained minor injuries. She was also transported to the hospital for further recuperation.
According to the report, Casanova was not wearing any safety devices.
On June 8, at 7:44 p.m., just off 3.45 miles south of route JJ, Michael J. Fuemmeler, the driver of a 2013 Victory motorcycle was attempting to make a turn but ended up trailing off the ride side of the roadway, according to the crash report. The driver ended up crashing into a utility pole and was ejected from his motorcycle. The motorcycle then continued off and struck a fence. The driver was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:05 p.m. by the Howard County coroner, James Hurt.
Golf Cart Accidents
Two South Korean tourists died when their wives’ golf cart rammed into theirs, sending them into a muddy river, where they later drowned, according to reports.
The couples were on vacation in Thailand for the Christmas holiday season when they went golfing at a course in Phitsanulok. The two were in a golf cart preparing to cross the river when their wives’ vehicle failed to stop and hit them from behind, knocking their cart off a floating platform, according to the BBC on Dec. 27.
The bodies of Jun Yong Sung, 68, and Jaseoong Ha, 76, were recovered in the Nan River. CNN reported that Sung Jun-yong’s body was found on Dec. 25, while Jaseoong Ha’s body was found on Thursday.
“Their wives said both were able to swim but I think the cause of drowning was the strong undercurrent,” a police spokesperson told AFP.
The caddie for the tourists also fell into the Nan River but was rescued by a fisherman. The Guardian reported that the women were also tossed into the river, but they were rescued.
