Will Smith Banned From Oscars for 10 Years

At this year’s Oscars, Will Smith gave a “slap that was heard around the world.” It seemed like Smith might get away with it without any major repercussions. But he resigned from the Oscars on April 1, and now he’s banned from the award ceremony for the next 10 years.

Smith says he “accepts and respects” the Academy’s decision to ban him for the next 10 years. The longtime actor won his first Oscar just minutes after slapping presenter Chris Rock in the face while he was on stage. Smith was reacting to a joke Rock made about Smith’s wife, who suffers from an illness that causes baldness.
