White House: TikTok Legislation Not About Banning Platform as ‘A Number of Interested Buyers’ Emerging

White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said at a Wednesday press briefing in Washington that the Biden administration does not want to have to introduce a ban on TikTok, but rather seeks its divestment from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance. The statement came after the president signed a spending bill that included legislation designed to force the sale of TikTok.

Ms. Jean-Pierre said there are “a number of interested buyers” for the social media platform.
