WalkAway’s Straka Punished Harshly for Non-Violent Misdemeanor, Says No J6er Can Expect Fair Trial

On January 6, 2021, Brandon Straka, founder of the #WalkAway movement was scheduled to speak at the Capitol after the main Trump rally at the Ellipse. So he went to the east side of the Capitol building—not the west side with all the violence and tear gas—filmed his walk up and 8 minutes on the crowded steps. Some people went inside, he did not. He posted his video on Twitter and that sealed his fate.

Straka shares about the crack of dawn FBI swat team raid, his brief time in jail, why he took a plea deal, house arrest, being on the TSA terrorism watchlist, and now a civil lawsuit—all of this for a non-violent misdemeanor.

He says it saddens him to be pessimistic, but it’s his belief that, “no January 6 defendant will get a fair trial or a fair shot in front of a jury or a judge in Washington DC.”
