“And because things escalated … there were now two helicopters flying above my house. There was now the bomb squad, the FBI, the San Francisco Police Department.”

The last thing Zach Vorhies expected when he landed his dream job as a YouTube senior software engineer was to eventually be besieged in his own apartment by police.

The idea seems straightforward enough, even commendable—using AI to overcome bias (i.e., racism) in the way the search engine works. But when license is taken to alter objective reality to create something more “fair,” who gets to decide what’s really fair, and how much truth do they distort to create the “new reality”?

Zach Vorhies risked it all to expose an unprecedented attempt to reengineer society through technology. In this interview, he reflects on how he survived that experience, and how the “new tech” can help defend American freedoms against techno-tyranny.

Hosted by NTD journalist Brendon Fallon, Wide Angle is following the latest political developments in the United States and abroad, and finding the connection between these and the larger global trends of our times.
