President Donald Trump said that migrants who aren’t happy with the detention centers near the United States-Mexico border should stay home.

Trump weighed in on the issue after a number of Democratic lawmakers, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), visited a facility in Texas and said the immigrants there aren’t being treated well.

In a post on Twitter late July 3, Trump wrote: “If Illegal Immigrants are unhappy with the conditions in the quickly built or refitted detentions centers, just tell them not to come. All problems solved!”

The president campaigned on stemming the flood of illegal immigrants coming into the United States from Mexico.

In a lengthy missive also posted on Wednesday night, Trump said Customs and Border Protection officers are being forced to do things outside of their regular jobs. He also hit back at Democrats, saying the conditions for illegal immigrants being held are adequate.

“Our Border Patrol people are not hospital workers, doctors or nurses. The Democrats bad Immigration Laws, which could be easily fixed, are the problem. Great job by Border Patrol, above and beyond,” he said.

“Many of these illegals aliens are living far better now than where they came from, and in far safer conditions. No matter how good things actually look, even if perfect, the Democrat visitors will act shocked & aghast at how terrible things are. Just Pols. If they really want to fix them, change the Immigration Laws and Loopholes. So easy to do!”

The president then said that migrants should be entering the country legally.

“Now, if you really want to fix the Crisis at the Southern Border, both humanitarian and otherwise, tell migrants not to come into our country unless they are willing to do so legally, and hopefully through a system based on Merit. This way we have no problems at all!” he said.

In yet another tweet, Trump wrote: “Mexico is doing a far better job than the Democrats on the Border. Thank you Mexico!”

Trump recently threatened to impose tariffs on Mexico unless the country started working to prevent migrants from entering its southern border and traveling through Mexico to the United States.

At a bill signing on Monday, the president said that tariffs are still a possibility but praised Mexico, noting that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador had sent 6,000 troops to the Mexican border with Guatemala.

“They’re doing a great job. It’s been way down. It’s cut way down. You’ll start to see the numbers over the next three or four weeks,” Trump said, adding that he believes the action was taken because of the tariffs threat.

“He’s very smart to do it, because that’s a tiny fraction. It sounds like a lot of soldiers, but that’s a fraction of what tariffs would cost Mexico. But I very much appreciate it,” the president said.

“And he’s doing a great job for Mexico because the Mexican people were very upset with all of these tens of thousands of people, hundreds of thousands of people walking through Mexico. And the people of Mexico are just as happy as I am with what they’re doing.”
