Snow and sleet cover New York City, blizzard warning cancelled

National Weather Service has cancelled the blizzard warning for New York City on March 14.

A winter weather advisory is in place.

Warnings are still in effect for other parts of New York State and the Northeast region including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Connecticut, with forecasts for up to 2 feet (60 cm) of snow by early Wednesday (March 15) and temperatures 15 to 30 degrees below normal for this time of year.

The New York City subway service has canceled all above-ground transport. The city’s public school system, the largest system in the country closing schools today.

The city has staged more than 300 pieces of snow-plowing equipment at the three major airports, and more than four thousand flights were canceled ahead of this winter storm.

New York City public schools—the largest U.S. school system—canceled classes on Tuesday. Districts in Boston, Fairfax County, Virginia, and Philadelphia were also closed.
