Singer “Meat Loaf” ended up hospitalized after falling off a stage in Texas over the weekend and reportedly breaking his collarbone.
The 71-year-old singer had finished his set and was speaking to fans on Saturday, May 4, at the 2019 Texas Frightmare Weekend, when he appeared to lose his balance and toppled offstage through a curtain, as seen in video footage.
“Meat Loaf” suffered a broken collarbone and was transported to a local hospital, where he was kept overnight, according to TMZ.
Multiple reports claim “Meat Loaf” tripped over a bundle of loose wires on stage. Eyewitnesses told TMZ the singer wanted to thank his fans before handing over the microphone when he fell.
Following the accident, The Frightmare organization issued a statement on Facebook offering refunds for those who had paid for a photo op.
“As everyone knows, Meat Loaf fell today. We wanted to keep you updated as soon as we knew something,” they said in the statement. “We just found out that the hospital is keeping him overnight for observation. He will not be able to return on Sunday but he has already confirmed that he will be back in 2020! He’s a trooper and we are praying [for] a speedy recovery! Photo ops will be refunded as soon as possible.”
This is not the first time “Meat Loaf” suffered a major health issue. Previously, he’s collapsed on stage on three separate occasions; in 2003, 2011, and most recently in 2016, according to multiple reports.
The singer has said he “suffers from asthma and from a medical condition that causes an irregular heartbeat,” according to Business Insider.
His 2016 stage collapse was attributed to dehydration, while the 2011 collapse was reportedly caused by exhaustion and illness. Meanwhile, after the 2003 collapse, “Meat Loaf” was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, which causes the heart to beat irregularly, according to his biography.

Considered one of the most iconic singer-songwriters of his age, “Meat Loaf” was born Sept. 27, 1947 in Dallas, Texas. Born Marvin Lee Aday, he later legally changed his first name to Michael. However, most know him by his stage name, “Meat Loaf.”
He’s best known for his 1977 operatic rock album “Bat Out of Hell,” which won gold and later platinum, according to his biography. It featured such hits as “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” and “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad.”
Aside from music, “Meat Loaf” has also acted in a few films, including “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” “Wayne’s World,” and “Fight Club,” according to IMDb. He also appeared in several television shows, such as “South Park,” “Monk,” “Elementary,” and “Ghost Wars.”
