Shen Yun Performing Arts successfully concluded two performances at the Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center in Wichita, Kansas, on April 6 and 7. Audience members said they felt uplifted and blown away by Shen Yun’s artistry.
“It’s uplifting to see beauty expressed in such a way,” said Cole Howard, an engineer.
“I was just blown away by how much story and acting goes into all the dancing and their facial expressions and then their movements. I was speechless for most of the time, halfway through crying sometimes, laughing at other times. It was beautiful,” said Carl Kernie, a composer.
“Beautiful. I enjoy the colors and the vibrancy of it and the excitement, the energy. It’s just been very entertaining and very lovely to watch,” said Grant Bauserman, a business owner.
“I was surprised by the large screen in the back, how well that screen integrated with the performers on the stage. All the colors, the costuming, the precision, and the dancing,” he added.
Shen Yun draws inspiration from China’s 5,000 years of civilization and values from before communism, and showcases them through traditional Chinese dance, music, and stories. Theatergoers expressed their appreciation for Shen Yun’s efforts.
“I think it’s a great mission. It portrays what they have struggled with for years, and this is a good venue to express it,” said David Schwenk, a paraeducator at Heartspring.
“We’re getting to experience some of the culture, the beautiful culture of China, before it became communistic,” said Mark Mountcastle, an engineer.
Mr. Kernie said Shen Yun’s performance was eye-opening to him and felt like seeing a piece of heaven.
“I really hope that it will open people’s eyes on things. It certainly opened my eyes on how so much of this has to be so carefully preserved.”
“I’ll say, a little piece of heaven,” he added.
Shen Yun has an all-new program every season, including new dances, music, stories, and backdrops. Audience members said they cherished the opportunity to experience ancient Chinese culture.
Mr. Schwenk said he had high praise for Shen Yun’s performance and applauded their artistry.
“These performers here are actually the very, very best. We haven’t seen any better.”
“Lighthearted, happy, optimistic,” said Mr. Bauserman.
“Thank you, thank you all so much for such a wonderful experience. You all did beautifully and we’d love to continue to see shows like this,” said Mr. Mountcastle. “Very moving, very beautiful and very, very well done.”
Shen Yun will be performing at The Monument in Rapid City, South Dakota, on April 17.
