Shen Yun’s Performance in Miami Surprises Miss Global USA 2024

March 2, 2024

Shen Yun Performing Arts brought traditional Chinese culture from before communism to life at Miami, Florida’s Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts on Feb. 24.

Lindsay Becker, Miss Global USA 2024, was delightfully surprised by Shen Yun’s artistry.

“The amount of acrobatics that we saw this evening, doing the flips, no hands, cartwheels with no hands. I was amazed. Honestly, it was spectacular,” she said. “I’m a huge fan of bright, vibrant colors. The performance came alive with the colors and the beautiful designs of the garments. It was spectacular, truly.”

Seeing Shen Yun’s performance gave Ms. Becker new insights.

“The importance of family and empowering people to go after what they believe in,” she said. “It’s given me a lot of things to look into and learn more about.”

Shen Yun’s orchestra combines both classical Chinese instruments and Western instruments.

“It was cool to see cultures come together in that way. I thought it was a truly interesting way to celebrate not only Western culture but also Eastern, and especially through the music. I’ve never seen some of those instruments before, so it was very cool to see,” said Ms. Becker.

She also had high praise for the soprano.

“Their singing was gorgeous. I couldn’t believe some of the notes that the soprano was reaching. They were beautiful, both of them. Very, very talented artists.”

Becker also won Miss U.S. International in 2015. She came to enjoy the performance with her family and said she was deeply impressed by Shen Yun’s artists.

“I think it was really special to see people celebrate the art of dance, and expression of their thoughts and ideals through dance. So that was very interesting to see, beautiful,” she said. “It felt very calming. Experiencing it, I felt a part of the show. It felt just really serene.”

Shen Yun has been touring since 2006 and now has 8 companies performing around the globe simultaneously.

“Absolutely fabulous show. Continue doing what you love and inspiring others all around you,” Ms. Becker said. “Come here for a cultural experience. It’s absolutely beautiful, the art, the costuming and the performance here. The talent we see here is not something that you could experience every day here in America. So definitely go out and see the Shen Yun performance.”

Shen Yun will be performing at the Aronoff Center for the Arts in Cincinnati, Ohio, on March 2 and 3.
