Shen Yun Performing Arts hit the stage in Miami, Florida, on Feb. 24 and 25. Through classical Chinese dance, music, costume, and an innovative 3D backdrop, the company took audience members on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture.
Among the audience was Latin Grammy award winner Nestor Torres, a classical and jazz flutist. He was impressed with Shen Yun’s artistry showcasing traditional culture.
“I’m most impressed with the professionalism, high level of artistry, and a sense of mission and a vision, something very specific, very specific message of the timelessness of Chinese culture. … The thousands of years of tradition attest to the fact that no matter what happens, Chinese culture and its traditions will prevail.”
Minerva Borjas, the musical director of Area Stage Company, said, “I feel it’s important to rescue the principles of beauty and love and compassion through art. I feel it’s a bridge so we can reach more people.”
Carlos Perez Ruiz, an entertainment manager for Susan G. Komen Company, said, “Every culture has their own values, and I think at the end of the day, we are as a world, we are all the same, right? So it is important to make sure that we continue learning and enjoying and understanding each culture’s values and respecting them.”
Victor Rocco, producer and director of ONDA POP TV SHOW, said, “I like the fact that people stand for their rights, for the freedom to project their feelings, to grow spiritually. And I applaud that. And I applaud that. And it’s good for us to learn a little bit about Chinese culture and to embrace it, and to learn what it’s all about, and what better way to learn through music and through dance.”
Ancient Chinese people believed their culture was inspired by the divine, and that its values are rooted in spirituality.
Katherine Pena, the winner of Miss Florida Global United States 2019, said, “That’s the whole point why we’re here on Earth, to help heal the collective with everything that we do and I believe this dance represents that. So spirituality is very important to me. It spoke to me, the whole, even just the beginning, that we’re all here for permission to work for the creator. Everything, even the dance moves, just align so well with the message.”
Walter Di Leo, the vice president and COO of PDM U.S., LLC, said, “Spirituality I believe is a very important part in Chinese culture. And I also had the pleasure to visit your country on many occasions. And definitely spirituality is always such a statement when it comes again to serenity and to the wellbeing of a human being. So I really appreciate what was transmitted by your show.”
Shen Yun is next headed to the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas from Feb. 29 to March 3.
