‘Divine and Beautiful’: Hollywood Audience Captivated by Shen Yun

April 16, 2024

Shen Yun Performing Arts graced the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, from April 5–7. Many audience members say their breath was taken away by Shen Yun’s artistry and the beauty of the performance.

Lisa Royer, the global customer support supervisor at Western Digital, found the performance to be very moving and felt a connection.

“It really resonates with you. It was beautiful, it was breathtaking, I genuinely enjoyed each and every single dance that they put on, from the men’s Chinese cultural dance to the women’s dance at the end. It was beautiful, just every single way. Definitely a divine and beautiful dance.”

“The colors were bright, they’re motivational. And the dancing and how it was synchronized together was just beautiful,” said Roy Guthrie, who used to work in law enforcement.

Jeffery Faneuff, the vice president of engineering at Vantiva, appreciated getting a glimpse of traditional Chinese culture and said he was left inspired after seeing Shen Yun perform.

“Seeing the traditional Chinese dance was very inspiring. All the movement, the fluidity, the musicality, it was all very beautiful and well done.”

Shen Yun aims to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism. Ancient Chinese people believed their culture was inspired by the divine. Theatergoers applauded Shen Yun’s efforts and took note of a deeper message presented on stage.

“The message of divinity, just searching for higher powers. Reaching beyond what your normal mind is thinking on a daily basis and trying to transcend that to another dimension, it’s beautiful,” said Ms. Royer.

“Talking from beyond the human perspective and absolutely getting more into your soul. And absolutely reaching beyond your normal everyday, and having you think about something bigger. It’s beautiful, it’s the message overall,” she added.

“It was really beautiful, the words about we came from heaven. When that man was singing the two songs, it made me cry. It was really beautiful,” said Patti Simab, the co-owner of Bristol Speedwash.

With 8 companies touring the globe simultaneously, Shen Yun Performing Arts brings an all-new program to audiences every year.

“Don’t ever stop. It inspires people, it makes people happy. It’s truly just beautiful, don’t ever stop,” said Ms. Royer.

“They get out there and show what they can do and what China is really meant to be,” said Jean Arnott, the founder of Woman of Faith Interfaith Service Community.

“It was very uplifting and motivating, and it was also educational,” said Mr. Guthrie. “I loved it, it was wonderful. It lived up to all my expectations and I would definitely come back and see it again next year.”

Shen Yun will perform at the Harris Theater in Chicago, Illinois on April 13 and 14.
