Composer Gets ‘Magical Experience’ After Seeing Shen Yun

February 7, 2024

Shen Yun Performing Arts successfully concluded two performances at the McAllen Performing Arts Center in McAllen, Texas, over the weekend. Audience members voiced their appreciation for the company’s artistry.

“The show was magical. I think I was smiling from cheek to cheek every different song that we did. I thought it was a very magical experience. Everything from the music to the choreography was well executed. … Very well put together,” said Noel Echevarria, who is a composer.

Shen Yun brings 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture to the stage, a culture once believed to be inspired by the divine. Audience members said they were delighted to learn about it.

“I’m very pleased to see how I’m able to learn more each time I come, about the traditional Chinese culture. The difference between ethnic dances and regional dances,” said Jorge Canchola, who is a professor at the University of Texas.

“Things that are so needed at this time in our world, like truth, tolerance, compassion. That’s Shen Yun,” said Normally Villarreal, the owner of Villarreal Knives.

Shen Yun’s live orchestra also combines both traditional Chinese instruments and Western instruments.

“I love the way that they were able to incorporate both at the same time. And just to be able to share the experience of it—the old and the new, and be able to blend it together and share their story. Because it was really neat how … the dance and the music was so combined to be able to give us stories without even having to talk. So it was wonderful,” said Mary Echeverria.

Shen Yun Performing Arts brings an all-new program to life every season, including new dances, songs, music, and backdrops.

“It was a great show, we enjoyed it a lot. Thank you for all the hard work. I can’t imagine everything that went into it. To both the people on stage, the dancers, and the orchestra, just phenomenal. So, thank you,” said Jessica Kirk, who is a meteorologist at NBC23.

“When you come here, you laugh, you are amazed. I even cried for some of the things because it really touches your heart, and your soul is touched also,” said Mr. Villarreal.

Shen Yun will perform at the Von Braun Center Concert Hall in Huntsville, Alabama, on Feb. 6.
