Burlington Audience Say It’s ‘Wonderful’ to Witness the Revival of Traditional Chinese Culture

February 22, 2024

Shen Yun Performing Arts presented two shows at the Flynn Center in Burlington, Vermont, on Feb. 17 and 18. The company’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of China’s rich cultural heritage, which was almost lost due to communism.

“They succeeded wonderfully tonight with what they express from some of the old ways in China and what it really represents. I thought it was beautiful, my wife and all of our kids loved it,” said Erik Worthington, business owner of Worthington II—Grease Beasts LLC.

“I think it’s a very worthwhile mission. It’s a story that most of the people don’t know, most of the people in this country don’t know the hardship that’s really going on in communist China. And it’s a good way to express it and get it out,” said Eric Granger, CEO of Aracari Films.

“It kept you enticed the entire time you know the excitement, and I just thought it was a fantastic show. And not only that, there was meaning behind it. And you can see the performers were really … very animated, very characterized, it was fantastic,” said Jonathan Garrow, criminal investigator for the New York State Police.

Shen Yun showcases classical Chinese dance and music and depicts stories of ancient legends to modern stories that highlight communist China’s persecution of spirituality.

“The storyline is interesting. It’s beautiful to see the culture and the tradition of China brought to life today. And it is so sad to hear about what China is doing to the people of China. … I’ve read the stories and I’ve read the accounts of people being imprisoned for doing something as simple as reading a book. And that their organs are harvested for the elites,” said Bill Schenck, the clinical director at Vizuri Health Centre.

“I think it’s the inspiration in the message. And because they have such an important message, and they want to get the message out to the rest of the world. So I think the inspiration comes within, and the energy comes from the inspiration,” said Mr. Granger.

“Those messages taught us more of the simple old ways that bring us back to faith in our creator and God,” said Mr. Worthington.

Shen Yun will perform in Miami, Florida, from Feb. 21 to 25.
