Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra ‘Shows China’s Beautiful Culture,’ Taiwanese Professor Says

The Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra finished its Sept. 14 performance at Pingtung County Performing Arts Center with three standing ovations and two encores.

“I was shocked,” said Chung Shaohsi, assistant professor of business management at Meiho University. “What is outstanding about Shen Yun’s music is how it is able to blend the beauty of traditional Chinese culture into the combination of Chinese and Western instruments. I think people of any race or from any region can appreciate the beauty of this music.”

For the sixth consecutive year, New York-based Shen Yun has brought together musicians from its five touring companies to create a symphony orchestra that combines traditional Chinese instruments and a full Western orchestra.

“When the three erhu soloists came out playing together, I was so touched. At that moment, I was truly connected with the beauty of the traditional Chinese culture. It purified my heart. The music encouraged and comforted my spirit at the same time,” said Chung.

He also felt energy coming from the stage throughout the concert.

“Shen Yun, not only did the music touch people, it also purified my heart.”
