Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) grilled a Biden administration official on Thursday at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing over the president’s lifting of sanctions on the Chinese Communist Party-run Institute of Forensic Science, which has been confirmed by the United Nations to have committed atrocities on Uyghurs in China. In 2020, the Trump administration placed the agency on the U.S. Commerce Department’s list of sanctioned entities.

Under Secretary of Commerce Alan Estevez stated the delisting was a trade-off to get China to help with “stopping the flow of precursors” of fentanyl from China into the United States. Mr. Perry, however, said the CCP was likely only offering “lip service” on tackling the fentanyl issue in return.
