The latest NHS England figures show that at the end of June, nearly 7 million people were waiting to start hospital treatment. Almost 30,000 people had to wait more than 12 hours at Accident and Emergency Departments in July—a record number. NTD spoke to Jamie Jenkins, the former head of health analysis at the Office for National Statistics, about the reasons behind these figures.
