New Windfall Tax to Freeze Fuel Bills: Starmer

Sir Keir Starmer has set out a plan to stop energy bills rising by thousands of pounds over the winter. He says Labour would freeze the energy price cap increase and proposed to pay for it in part by an extension of the windfall tax on the profits of oil and gas companies. However, an economic think tank said that Starmer’s plan could cost as much as the COVID furlough scheme.
