President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign released a new video attacking four radical Congresswomen who the president has zeroed in on as the new face of the Democratic Party.
The campaign video kicks with an image of Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), with googly eyes relacing Ocasio-Cortez’s regular eyes and the caption “The Squad: Meet the Leaders of the Democrat Party.”
The footage focuses first on Omar, interspersing video of Trump’s remarks on Omar during his recent North Carolina rally and statements Omar has made, including the Somalian native saying about America: “Ignorance is very pervasive in this country.”
Tlaib is then seen getting emotional in a recent Congressional hearing before footage is shown of Trump recalling how the Michigan representative said on election night that “we’re going to go in there and we’re going to impeach the [expletive],” a statement she’s declined to apologize for.
There is also a video clip shown of Tlaib being thrown out of a Trump campaign event while screaming at those around her.
Pressley, who recently introduced a bill that would attempt to abolish the federal death penalty after Trump’s administration reinstated it this week, was the next “Squad” member to be shown.
Trump’s campaign highlighted a remark Pressley recently made that was widely criticized for being racist.
“We don’t need any more brown faces that don’t want to be a brown voice. We don’t need black faces that don’t want to be a black voice,” Pressley said at a recent event.
The campaign video then included footage of Trump at the rally, noting that Ocasio-Cortez “said that illegal immigrants are more American than any person who seeks to keep them out ever will be.”
“Can you believe that?” Trump added.
Ocasio-Cortez was then shown during an appearance on MSNBC saying, “The women and children on that border that are trying to seek refuge and seek opportunity in the United States of America, with nothing but the shirt on their backs, are acting more American than any person who seeks to keep them out ever will be,” the New Yorker said.
It then concluded by showing the lawmaker saying during another interview: “If that’s what radical means, call me a radical” before showing all four “Squad” members again and ending with the “Trump-Pence 2020” campaign logo.
Trump has attacked all four Congresswomen repeatedly since July 14, when he posted missives on Twitter urging them to go back to countries from which they “originally came” and fix the “broken” governments there before returning to America to “show us how it’s done.”
While Omar was born in Somalia, her three close allies were born in the United States.
Trump later said that the four Congresswomen dislike America and if they don’t like it they should leave.
He’s taken particular aim at Omar, calling her an “America-hating anti-semite” and spending several minutes at the rally rattling off a list of her statements as the crowd rumbled before it broke into a chant of “send her back.”
Trump told reporters the next day that he did not like the chant.
The “Squad” and their supporters have in turn called the president racist and said they hope to defeat him in 2020 if impeachment efforts fail.
