NEW YORK–While we spend more time in the house and restaurants around the world close their doors, we can take advantage of an opportunity to try out some new recipes at home. Chef Andrea Hayley-Sankaran, founder of Buttered Veg, told NTD some of the benefits of eating root vegetables– especially when the season changes from winter to spring.

“Just as the seasons change in the environment, the seasons also change in your body,” said Hayley-Sankaran.

She explains that the body gains weight in the winter and as spring rolls around, the body starts naturally eliminating the extra fat it stored during the colder months.

Hayley-Sankaran told NTD, “So what happens is the fat from your skin cells, it goes into your blood and it can make your blood a little bit sweet or thick. And that can put strain on your liver, and the liver is actually an important detox organ in your body. So beets is one of the best foods to detox your liver.”
