New ‘Dangerous’ Hate Crime Law Soon to Apply in Scotland

A controversial new hate crime law is set to come into effect in Scotland next month. The new law creates a new set of “hatred offences” for protected characteristics, such as age, religion, and transgender identity. But the act has been described as “dangerous” by a range of free speech groups and Scottish Conservative MPs, and could see people prosecuted for what they say in their own homes.
