A mother and her 10-year-old son were found dead inside their Arizona home on Aug. 29.
Authorities said officers responded to reports about shots fired at a mobile home in Mesa at 3:45 a.m., reported Fox10 Phoenix.
There were at least eight people, including children, asleep in the mobile home located near McKellips Road and Mesa Drive at the time of the shooting. The mother and son, who were not identified, were the only ones killed, the Mesa Police Department said. No one else inside the home was injured.
Mesa police said the shots were fired into the home from outside, reported AZ Family. When police walked into the home, they discovered the bodies of the mother and son with gunshot wounds.
Investigators are working on a description of the shooter, adding that they don’t know yet whether the person was in a car or on foot.

Mother and Son Found Dead in Garage
Recently in Texas, a mother and son where both were found in a garage in what appeared to be an apparent murder-suicide.
On the evening of Aug. 23, Phillip Oliver “Ollie” Wiedemann, 6, and his 46-year-old mother, Candace Rochelle Harbin, were both found dead inside a minivan in a parking garage, the Waxahachie Police Department said.

“Ollie was an amazing young boy who cared about people. He always wanted to make others happy and if ever a classmate was having a tough day, he would reach out to help them,” John Wiedemann, his father, said in his statement obtained by Dallas-area news outlet WFAA on Aug. 26.
“He loved swimming, Legos and superheroes, but most of all he loved going to school. Our hearts are broken and may never be whole again.”
Harbin was described in media outlets as the estranged wife of Wiedemann.
Hours before they were found, Wiedemann reported his son missing. Ollie was last seen at a vape store in Waxahachie with Harbin.
After 20 Years, Police in 2 States Link Dead Mother and Son
Another incident involving the death of a mother and son that occurred over 20 years ago wasn’t solved until 2019, when the boy’s father confessed to the killing.
The case was cracked thanks to an online DNA database, help from international police, and a consultant whose work led to an arrest in the Golden State Killer investigation, authorities said Feb. 5.
The boy’s remains were found in September 1998 by workers mowing grass on a frontage road near I-85 in Durham, North Carolina, said Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood.
The child’s DNA was matched to DNA from a close relative who had submitted the information to an online database.
After contacting the relative, investigators learned the boy was Robert “Bobby” Adam Whitt, who was born in Michigan and raised in Ohio, Blackwood said.
Meanwhile, deputies in South Carolina had found an unidentified woman whose nude body was dumped in the woods beside I-85 in May 1998, her hands had been bound and she had been suffocated.
After DNA testing confirmed the victims were mother and son, investigators in the United States enlisted the help of Korean authorities and international police to identify the woman as Myoung Hwa Cho.
Cho’s husband, the boy’s father, is serving time in federal prison on unrelated charges. After being questioned several times he confessed to killing his wife and son.
