The vast majority of money for political campaigns comes from big donors—mega-rich individuals, corporations, and industry lobby groups. Often, those big donors hedge their bets by giving to both political parties. The question is, what return do they expect on their investment? And what does it all mean for the average citizen if their politicians are beholden to donors rather than to voters?
