The man who knocked out comedian Andy Dick after his New Orleans comedy show said he punched him after being groped.

David Hale said Dick grabbed his genitals, The New Orleans Advocate reported.

A source said via the Advocate that Hale claims he watched Dick’s comedy show at One Eyed Jacks in New Orleans and that after the show, he said goodbye to Dick. Dick then reached into Hale’s private area. Hale got mad, but Dick only winked at him. That is when Hale decided to throw the punch.

The source told the Advocate that the police would investigate the veracity of Hale’s claims.

Video footage shows Hale waiting around after the show while Dick talks with a group of people. As Dick walks away from the group, Hale walks over and throws the knockout punch. Dick looks like he is unaware of Hale’s presence before the punch is thrown.

Hale then picks up a bottle from the curb and slowly walks away. People then start going after him. One woman falls trying to walk after him, and then he turns the corner as a group gathers to follow him.

The incident is believed to have taken place on August 10 at 2:20 a.m., according to the Advocate. Dick was treated for brain bleeding afterward.

Guitarist Paris Dylan, who performed with Dick, said that he first saw Hale in a dressing room before going on to perform.

“This is definitely the man I saw before Andy went on stage in the green room area,” he wrote to the Advocate, “and it’s the same man that I saw punch Andy and walk away. I feel this was premeditated and he was out to severely injure, if not kill.”

Dylan told the Advocate in another article that before the show, Hale said to him that Dick tried to date his sister in the past and that the situation “wasn’t good.”

Dylan also said that Hale took a photo with Dick, but nothing else happened.

“There was no hanky-panky; there was no grabbing going on or anything,” he told the Advocate.

Hale also punched another man, who had followed him around the corner after he knocked out Dick.

Police did not arrest anybody after they arrived at the crime scene. A complaint was filed against Hale on Aug. 12. They arrested Hale Aug. 14 using a tip from Crimestoppers, the Advocate reported.

Hale was charged with second-degree battery and simple battery.

In July 2018, Dick was charged with one count each of sexual battery and simple battery. According to Variety, Dick has a history of inappropriate sexual behavior and was fired from film production in 2017 over sexual harassment allegations.

In 2007, Dick was forcibly removed from Jimmy Kimmel Live when he couldn’t keep his hands off of Ivanka Trump, Variety reported.

“Yo. I’ve been at two separate parties where homeboy sexually assaulted women. One on Sunset in Hollywood and one in Hermosa Beach. He got his [expletive] beat in Hermosa and narrowly avoided it on Sunset. Probably something similar here,” tweeted @bro_finance, referring to Andy Dick, on August 14.
