‘It’s Clear This Judge Should Be Disqualified’: Analyst on Trump’s NY Criminal Case

Former President Donald Trump’s legal team is pushing for Judge Juan Merchan to recuse himself, for a second time, over an alleged conflict of interest involving his daughter’s political dealings.

NTD speaks to Paul Kamenar, the lead counsel at the National Legal and Policy Center, who says this time the circumstances are different, and that the judge must recuse himself—despite vowing to stay on the case. Mr. Kamenar says this is because statute requires recusal if the appearance of a conflict of interest occurs within six degrees of separation. Judge Merchan’s family relationship to his daughter, however, is only one degree of separation.
