A gunman is on the run after opening fire at a light rail station in Seattle, leaving one person dead and two others injured, police said.

The shooting happened Friday night inside the Westlake station downtown, according to Seattle Police Detective Mark Jamieson.

At approximately 9:20 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting, the Seattle Police Department (SPD) said in a statement.

A patrol team nearby arrived at the scene shortly after and found three adult male victims with gunshot wounds. Two of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.

Officers provided medical assistance at the scene until medics arrived, police said.

Seattle Fire Department medics rushed the victims to a nearby hospital. One of the victims died of his injuries in the hospital, according to the statement.

Initial reports indicate there was some kind of dispute or disturbance on the street level that continued into the station.

Witnesses said they saw the gunman fleeing the scene on foot after the disputes turned into a deadly shooting.

Investigators don’t believe the shooting was random, Jamieson said, but the relationship between the three victims is unclear.

Investigators are working on the case and it remains an active and ongoing investigation.

The SPD said on Twitter they would “update with additional information when available.”

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the SPD tip line at (206) 233-5000.
