Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer appeared on Joe Biden’s presidential campaign podcast as the first guest that is also on his vice-pick short-list, inciting rumors she may become his running mate.

Due to the CCP virus (Chinese communist party virus or novel coronavirus),  presidential campaigners are resorting to online outreach efforts such as, in Biden’s case, his newly created podcast series “Here’s the deal.”

On its first airing, Biden invited Whitmer, introducing her as one of the most talented people in the country.

“Gov. Whitmer is an outstanding governor. She is one of the most talented people in the country in my view,” Biden said while introducing her on the podcast. “She also is a supporter. She was also a co-chair of my campaign. She’s a good friend, but she has been laser-focused, laser-focused on delivering for her state.”

“You’re not the only governor with whom I’ve spoken,” Biden said,  “You just happen to be doing it as well as anybody who’s doing it.”

According to Whitmer spokeswoman Tiffany Brown, Whitner was flattered to be on Biden’s short-list as a vice presidential pick.

“The governor is flattered … but right now, she is focused 100 percent on doing everything she can to slow the spread of the coronavirus and protect the people of Michigan,” Brown said.

Biden and Whitmer during the 21-minute podcast segment, spoke about the current CCP virus crisis and Whitmer’s efforts to curb the outbreak.

“You would expect to be able to call your partners in federal government and get some help,” Whitmer said, “But the crisis was downplayed from the get-go, and it’s made our jobs as governors more difficult.”

When Biden asked Whitmer how she felt about being the target of the president’s biting criticism about how she handled the virus crisis, she said: “I don’t take any of this personally. If somebody doesn’t like how I’m doing my job, it is what it is,” she said.

A significant part of their conversation was devoted to sharing about Biden’s preference for snacks. That aroused a lot of skepticism on the internet.

GOP chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel, for instance, posted on Twitter: “It’s obvious Democrat Gretchen Whitmer has been focused more on VP auditioning than her job. Case in point: Biden’s campaign just posted a podcast with Whitmer interviewing Biden about snacks. Seriously.”
