The girlfriend of Cleveland Browns defender Chris Smith was killed in a car crash early Wednesday morning on I-90 West in Cleveland. It happened just four weeks after she gave birth to their daughter.

Last Sunday, 27-year-old Cleveland Browns’ defense end Chris Smith expressed his joy over his current life. He said how blessed and grateful he was. His girlfriend Petara Cordero, 26, was at his side with their newborn daughter Haven Harris, that Petara had given birth to just four weeks ago, Cleveland.com reported.

Because the players were free on Wednesday Petara had come over with Haven from Charlotte, North Carolina to spend some time together, according to the outlet.

On Tuesday night at 2 a.m., just as Smith steered his 2019 Lamborghini onto the westbound I-19 near the West 140th Street Exit Ramp, his tire had a blowout. The vehicle veered to the left and hit the median before stopping.

The pair got out of the wreck unharmed and positioned themselves on the road shoulder. A 47-year old woman driving a Mazda 3 smashed into Smith’s Lamborghini on the passenger’s side then struck and killed Petara. The matter is still under investigation.

The woman later admitted to police that she had been drinking. She was treated at the Fairview Hospital and later released. To date, no charges have been filed against the female driver.

Patara was rushed to Fairview Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Smith was unharmed. It is not clear whether her daughter Haven was in the car at the time of the accident.

The team owners, Dee and Jimmy Haslam released a statement on the Browns’ website: “Words cannot describe the sorrow we feel for Chris following the loss of his girlfriend, Petara,” “Our entire organization mourns with Chris, his family, and the Cordero family. We will do everything possible to offer them our support, comfort, and any resources in this most difficult time.”

There’s much ado lately with the Cleveland Browns team. Here’s another story:

NFL Tells Odell Beckham Jr. Not to Wear Expensive Watch During Games: Report

The NFL told Odell Beckham Jr., who played his first game with the Cleveland Browns last Sunday, not to wear a $350,000 watch during games.

Beckham was spotted wearing the expensive Richard Mille-designed timepiece during the Browns game against the Indianapolis Colts. Some reports said it was worth $250,000 and others said it was worth $350,000.

Browns coach Freddie Kitchens stated that he didn’t know Beckham was wearing it.

“As long as they’re going to enforce that with everyone, I’m fine with it,” Kitchens said. “Let’s just make sure it gets enforced with everybody,” Sports Illustrated reported.

On Monday, Sept. 9, the NFL reached out to Beckham and asked him not to wear it again, the publication also reported.

NFL spokesman Michael Signora said there are no rules prohibiting jewelry, but he said there is a rule “prohibiting hard objects.”

The Browns devastatingly lost to the Colts, 43-13. Beckham caught seven passes for 71 yards in his Cleveland debut.

Sports Illustrated noted that he also drove his orange Rolls Royce to FirstEnergy Stadium.

Beckham issued a statement on Twitter, but it’s not clear if it was about the watch.

“If ain’t one thing…. it’s another,” he tweeted.
