On a particularly hot day in Florida, Jeff Longo spotted something unusual on the sidewalk. It was a newborn southern flying squirrel. Jeff immediately knew the tiny creature was as good as dead if left in the baking sun, so he took it home with him and named the baby (who was later found to be a female), Biscuits.
Biscuits’ chances of survival without her mother were slim, but Jeff was determined to save her. This is their story.
Biscuits was found as a newborn, and was incredibly tiny.
Jeff wasn’t even sure what kind of animal she was initially.
People told him the tiny creature will never survive.
But Jeff was determined to prove them all wrong.
Biscuits was pretty determined, too.
Eventually, she opened her eyes.
Turns out, baby flying squirrels are adorable!
She was immediately welcomed into the family.
Jeff learned as much as he could about properly caring for Biscuits.
Hand-feeding her every few hours for weeks.
He devoted all of his time to the baby, and eventually she was out of the danger zone.
She even learned how to skateboard.
And do goofy things.
Look at those eyes…
Biscuits grew up to be a beautiful animal.
And she enjoys life every day at her adopted home.
So cute!
Three months later, Biscuits is as healthy as she could be.
And to think everyone thought he should give up on her.
Now, Biscuits and her daddy are best friends forever.
What a happy coincidence that Jeff was there at just the right time to find Biscuits. This must be the cutest rescue story I’ve ever seen.
