Five people are missing and feared trapped after a seven-story building collapsed in Nairobi on June 13.
Over 100 people were evacuated from the building after authorities feared it would collapse.
“So far we have 128 people who were evacuated alive after the building was seen that it was about to collapse. An evacuation warning was sounded and they voluntarily evacuated,” said Pius Masai, deputy director of the National Disaster Management Unit.
The missing include family of four and one other person.
Kenya has seen similar tragedies in the past. A total of 49 people died in the middle of last year when another building collapsed during a heavy, nighttime downpour in a poor neighbourhood.
The government ordered the demolition of many other buildings after that incident.
