News of an apparent murder-suicide that shook Harris County Police on Aug. 30 has left family members devastated.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said the Family is in complete shock after making their horrific discovery on Friday.

A family of three, including their 5-year-old daughter, were found dead after concerned family members conducted a welfare check on Aug. 30.

“It appears to be an apparent murder-suicide with a total of three deceased. There is still a weapon at the location as well. Family members are out here on the scene. They’re obviously very traumatized by what’s occurred,” said Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, according to Eyewitness News.

“The initial information that we have is that this is a total surprise,” Gonzalez added. “There were no apparent issues that they knew of or cries for help. These are always the most horrific scenes when there is a child involved. We simply can’t make no sense of it.”

A chaplain at the HCSO was called in to offer support to the family members.

“Sad, tragic, and horrific. Apparent Murder-Suicide, a married couple and their 5-yr-old daughter. Condolences to their family members,” Gonzalez said on his Twitter account.

“It’s very sad,” Gonzalez said to Law Enforcement Today. “In my career as a homicide investigator, I investigated many murder-suicides. It’s a little bit more rare when a child’s involved, but we’ve seen it before.”

Police are asking neighbors or witnesses who might have heard or seen something in relation to the violence that took place between Aug. 27 and Aug. 30 to come forward.

The tragic discovery occurred at an apartment complex in the 20,000 block of Inverness Forest Boulevard, Texas, in north Harris County, reported Click2Houston.

According to Gonzalez, deputies arrived at the scene at around 1 p.m. local time. They found the deceased family of three—as well as a gun near the 36-year-old husband’s body, Gonzalez said at a press briefing.

Gonzalez added that the 36 and 37-year-old husband and wife, and their 5-year-old daughter, had not been in contact with family members since Aug. 27, raising the alarm for concerned family members.

Relatives then stopped by the apartment on Aug. 30. Upon arrival, they saw the family’s car in the parking lot but got no response when they knocked on the apartment door.

“They did not force entry is my understanding,” said Gonzalez. “They instead went to the leasing office, which was the right thing to do; and the leasing office then came and tried to assist them, and I think that’s when the discovery was made.”
