Marita Valentine a former executive producer, director, and choreographer for Walt Disney Productions watched Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Dr. Phillips Center of Performing Arts in Orlando, Florida, on March 14.

“I loved it, it was beautiful. The costuming, the colors, the scenery done on screen, and the interaction between the screen and the stage and the audience, was absolutely gorgeous,” said Valentine.

As a lifelong lover of the performing arts, she expressed her admiration of every aspect of the production.

“I think that, in the movement, in the presentation of the costuming, in the choreography and the direction, and in the explanation prior to each one of the presentations, that came through beautifully, it was divine,” she added.

She also loves the orchestra. “It was wonderful to see a full orchestra. It was wonderful,” she said. “It was grand to have the difference in the types of instruments and to hear them all fully. And the orchestration was wonderful, so it really made each instrument shine. The conductor was very, very good.”

She felt the importance of Shen Yun’s efforts to revive traditional values through music and dance.

“It’s wonderful that you’re keeping the tradition alive,” Valentine added. “I think we have to do that in every single country, and I think it’s lovely that you did it in such a tactful and nice and very lovely way. You’ve dealt with some issues that are rather difficult, and I thought it was done with great panache and grace.”

“And unfortunately the comparison to where we came from and where we are today in the presentation that showed that we’ve lost some of that divine spirituality,” she said. “But, hopefully in seeing it and we all see it clearly, it might reverse itself as time goes by.”

It was hard for Valentine to know that Shen Yun is able to perform all over the World, but is not able to be seen in China and hopes that one day it will change.

“It saddens my heart, but we already know that this has been a long history in China, it’s come a long way, we hope that in time it will come further. But I think it’s marvelous that you’re exposing all of that to the world, marvelous,” said Valentine.
