The race for Connecticut’s House of Representatives in District 90 took an unexpected turn this week. After the seat was called for Democratic candidate Jim Jinks, election officials discovered an error in the vote reporting system.

The seat flipped back to Republican incumbent Craig Fishbein, and he is currently leading his Democratic challenger by 21 votes.

The town clerk of Wallingford, Barbara Thompson, told the CT Mirror that her office found the error on Tuesday, but she could not answer if it was a clerical error or a computer error in the elections management system. The error was fixed on Wednesday.

A recount was ordered, however, because the current vote margin falls below 0.5 percent.

District 90 represents two towns in New Haven County, one being the town of Wallingford, where the error was found.
