Emmanuel Macron visits site of Nazi massacre
BERLIN, GERMANY - MAY 15: Newly-elected French President Emmanuel Macron attends a press conference at the Chancellery on May 15, 2017 in Berlin, Germany. Macron is visiting Berlin only a day after being sworn in as president in Paris. While Macron and Merkel have both demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the European Union and Merkel strongly applauded Macron's election, they are likely to differ over Macron's desire for E.U.-issued bonds, a measure Merkel has strongly opposed in the past. New French President Macron is in Oradour-sur-Glane, France to pay respects to the 642 killed in a Nazi massacre.

The 73rd anniversary of the massacre reminds people of the horrors of World War II, and a failure to punish the perpetrators.

The village of Oradour-sur-Glane now lies in ruins. Heinz Lammerding, the general in charge of the massacre, was never extradited to France for punishment.

In his speech, Macron made parallels between the Oradour massacre, and the conflicts in Syria, ISIS, Rwanda, and Yugoslavia.
