A New York state jury on Thursday ruled that Teva Pharmaceuticals is responsible for fueling the opioid epidemic.
The case targeted the entire opioid supply chain, from drugmakers to the pharmacies that filled prescriptions. This is one of the few verdicts so far among thousands of lawsuits nationwide over the painkillers.
Teva, meanwhile, plans to appeal. It says there’s no evidence of unnecessary prescriptions or oversupply by the company.
The opioid crisis is linked to more than half a million deaths in the United States in the past two decades.
