Excited fans replied with comments such as, “Can’t wait,” “I’m going to burst with excitement!” “We need a whole series of movies please!” “Best news all week!” “Cannot wait to see you as Lady Mary, again. It has been too long.”

Dame Maggie Smith, Penelope Wilton, and other cast members were captured on multiple photos shot near a church in Bampton, England by Splash News.

Other stars featured in the movie include Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael, Matthew Goode, Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, Simon Jones, Stephen Campbell Moore and Joanne Froggatt. Lily James told People that she wouldn’t be in the film because her character Rose moved away.

“Downton Abbey” is a PBS “Masterpiece” series that ended in 2015. It won 15 Emmys and 3 Golden Globe Awards. With a total of 69 Emmy nominations, it’s the most-nominated non-American television show in history.

The story centers around the fictional wealthy Crawley family and their servants in an Edwardian English country home in the 20th century.

The plot of the movie is yet to be announced. Oscar winner and the original creator, Julian Fellowes will write the movie script.
