Digital Billboard Catches Fire in Times Square

Firefighters have responded to the scene of digital billboard on fire in Times Square.

Flames started to shoot out of the LED billboard just after 3 p.m. on May 18.

The Fire Department says no injuries have been reported and there was no damage to the building the sign is attached to.

The sign covers about four floors of the building, also known as the Thomson Reuters building, but the flames did not spread beyond the sign.

A department spokesman says firefighters were working to turn the billboard’s power off. The sign was “de-energized” after 80 firefighters responded to the building, the spokesperson said.
It’s unclear what caused the fire.
