The who’s who of Democratic candidates joined remembrance activities in Columbia, South Carolina at the Zion Baptist Church. marking the 34th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The holiday coincides with the state’s upcoming Democratic caucus. The day is significant as black voters make up about two-thirds of the party’s electorate in South Carolina.
Inside the church, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders shared a handshake and smile after their frosty meeting just days earlier.
After the service, the candidates marched together from the church to the State House. They linked arms in a nod to the late Dr. King.
Amy Klobuchar said. “As we walked together I was reminded that Dr. King never really walked alone.”
