The White House says it will act if Russia does not deal with the ransomware hackers who broke into systems at software company Kaseya. Thousands of companies were compromised over the weekend. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said, “If the Russian government cannot or will not take action against criminal actors residing in Russia, we will take action or reserve the right to take action on our own.” President Joe Biden plans to meet with leaders from the State Department, Justice Department, and Homeland Security to discuss strategies to counter ransomware attacks. The White House continues to urge companies hit by cyberattacks to not pay the ransom.

The death toll continues to rise in Surfside, Florida, as rescue teams continue to comb through the rest of the condo collapse. The latest confirmed death toll stands at 46 as of Wednesday morning. The mayor of Miami-Dade County said, “I ask all of you around the world who are continuing to follow this story to please keep these victims and these families in your hearts and prayers.” This comes as the rescue operation faces more challenges as tropical storm Elsa closes in on Florida.

And former President Donald Trump announced plans to sue Twitter, Facebook, and Google. The firms suspended his social media accounts six months ago over his comments following the Jan. 6 Capitol incident. Trump and his team explained that the lawsuits seek to protect the First Amendment right to free speech. They argue that his rights were denied when the three Big Tech companies banned him. Trump announced that the America First Policy Institute supports his legal effort, adding that he believes thousands of other people may join his lawsuit.
