Iran’s state-controlled media have reported that multiple explosions occurred Thursday night near an Iranian military base where fighter jets are kept.

The possible retaliation strike comes days after Iran launched over 300 drones and missiles at Israel last weekend, and just hours after Iran’s foreign minister threatened an immediate and “maximum-level” response to any retaliation.

However, based on Iranian media reports on the matter, the scope of the attack on Iran is likely smaller than Iran’s recent attack on Israel. According to Brent Sadler, a research fellow for naval warfare and advanced technology at the Center for National Defense, this shows that the de-escalation process is underway.
