There are currently two cases before the Supreme Court related to restrictions being placed on houses of worship in New York State, one from the Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn and another by two Orthodox Jewish synagogues. Since the beginning of the pandemic, states have had different policies related to religious congregations. Here to explain some of those differences, the legal issues involved, and their impact is Katherine Beck Johnson, research fellow for legal and policy studies at the Family Research Council.
