The national emergency over COVID declared two years ago isn’t over yet. It was due to expire March 1, but President Biden recently extended it indefinitely, writing to congressional leaders: “It is essential to continue to combat and respond to COVID-19 with the full capacity and capability of the federal government.”
During the last two years, the federal government has greatly expanded the scope of its activities, powers, and spending, leading to pushback from the states.
One expression of that is growing momentum around the idea of holding a Convention of States to amend the Constitution. We sit down with Mark Meckler, the driving force behind the movement as president / cofounder of the Convention of States Action.
With Wisconsin and Nebraska recently passing resolutions, there are now 17 states calling for a COS, which is the halfway mark to the 34 legally needed. Meckler explains the case for a convention and why he thinks there’s a viable path to get there within a few years.
