A Chinese military jet crashed in a residential area in central China on June 9, killing at least one person, China’s state broadcaster CCTV reported.

The plane involved was a People’s Liberation Army Air Force’s J-7 fighter jet, which was on a training mission, CCTV’s military channel said.

The pilot parachuted successfully and suffered minor injuries, according to the report.

At least one local resident was killed and two others injured by Thursday afternoon. The injured and the pilot have been taken to hospital.

The incident occurred near an airport in Xiangyang city of central China’s Hubei Province on Thursday morning, according to the report.

Videos circulated on social media show houses near the crash site on fire.

The cause of the incident and related casualties are under investigation, the report said.
