The Trump administration said on April 26 that it would push North Korea to end its nuclear weapons and missile programs through international sanctions and diplomatic pressure.

No mention was made of a unilateral pre-emptive military strike.

Communist China took that as a positive sign.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said so at a press briefing on April 27, emphasizing words like “peaceful,” “positive” and “dialogue.”

China is North Korea’s sole support and ally. China supplies the oil and the financing North Korea needs to continue to exist.

At the same time, China does not seem to have complete control over the insular nation.

China’s position would be severely compromised should either North Korea or the United States escalate to military force.
