An illegal immigrant convicted of a number of offenses, including raping a child aged three years or younger, was arrested by Border Patrol agents in Arizona on Aug. 16. The child sex offender is the latest among a massive influx of illegal migrants on the southern border.

Mexican national, 33-year-old Miguel Vargas Mendoza, was arrested by Border Patrol agents near the city of Yuma.

Chief Patrol Agent Chris Clem announced via Twitter on Aug. 18, that Mendoza’s previous convictions include possession of a deadly substance, possession of marijuana for sale, raping of a minor, and performing willful cruelty to a child.

Fox News reported that similar cases involving illegal immigrants have occurred in the past year as large numbers of illegal migrants have entered the country.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) enforcement statistics from this fiscal year show that agents have arrested 9,381 migrants with criminal records.

This month four sex offenders attempting to cross the south border of Texas were caught and apprehended by Border Patrol agents.

Among them, Texas agents arrested a Guatemalan national under charges of engaging in lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 by force, he was sentenced to 22 years of jail time. Another was a Salvadoran national who was convicted for indecent exposure with a child in Houston in 2016 and was serving a 10-year probation sentence.

Over 2 million migrants have crossed the U.S.-Mexico border this fiscal year alone, among which approximately 500,000 avoided CBP agents unchecked, reported Fox News.
