Cher said that her city of Los Angeles should “take care of its own” before accepting “struggling immigrants.”
“I understand helping struggling immigrants, but my city (los angeles) isnt taking care of its own. What about the 50,000+ American citizens who live on the streets,” Cher wrote on Twitter on April 14.
“People who live below poverty line & hungry? If my state can’t take care of its own(many are vets)how can it take care of more?” she added.
The missive by a famous singer, who boasts more than 3.6 million followers on the social media platform, comes after President Donald Trump suggested that his administration would transport illegal immigrants directly to sanctuary cities across the nation.

“Due to the fact that Democrats are unwilling to change our very dangerous immigration laws, we are indeed, as reported, giving strong considerations to placing Illegal Immigrants in Sanctuary Cities only,” Trump said on Friday.
Officials in sanctuary cities have enacted policies that prevent law enforcement officers from cooperating with federal immigration authorities. There are eight states—including California—and hundreds of cities across the United States, which are officially sanctuaries for illegal aliens.
Democratic politicians struggled to counter Trump’s proposal, with some claiming that it would demean immigrants and others saying that it would make the cities more dangerous.
Trump and major Republicans, along with some law enforcement officials, have long argued that sanctuary policies make locales more dangerous because criminals get set loose instead of being deported.

In the past several weeks, a string of arrests of illegal aliens has taken place. A 33-year-old Honduras national who was deported twice from the United States was arrested on March 31 in Jersey City, a sanctuary city, for allegedly raping and killing a 45-year-old nanny.
Local officials wrongly stated that Jorge Rios did not have a criminal record—entering the United States illegally is a crime—and avoided talking about the sanctuary policy’s possible connection to Rios being in the city.
Cher did not follow up on her missive as of Monday morning but it was widely praised online, including by Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr.

Before Sunday’s alignment with Trump, Cher had been a harsh critic of the president.
In 2016, prior to him being elected, she told an audience at a fundraiser for Trump’s opponent Hillary Clinton: “When I watch Trump I just want to blow my brains out.”
She also compared Trump to Hitler.
Earlier this year, the singer made other hyperbolic claims.
“No one is really safe in Trump’s America unless they’re a member of Mar-a-Lago, live in Trump Tower, white, or wears MAGA hat,” she wrote on Twitter.
